Google translate & search engine : how it works

I recently found out the way Google search and traduction works. In fact , i'm studying Data Mining and it explains of course how search engines works. Although, the Google's algorithms still unrevealed ( otherwise it wouldn't be the leading search engine in the world ! ). I found two videos about Google search engine and Google translate , where the concept is explained by Matt Cuts ( Matt Cuts is a software engineer who joined google in 2000 and he is the head of Google's Webspam team i will share a link to his blog in the bottom of the article ).
I wont lie, i was always curious about Google translate algorithm and what frustrated me was how can Google Translate use grammar rules !!! I will let you discover ( if you don't know it ofc ) the Google's secret :)
all the best,
Safwen

Click!

Recently, I found a podcast that seemed particularly interesting among the BBC's large range of programmes. This is called Click and talks about “how computers and digital technology affect our lives around the world”. I liked it because it shows various (and sometimes surprising) ways new technologies are little by little incorporated in our lives. The last week, I heard about the new “IPhones of the street”: in the smart cities, lamps will be used to do many things such as leaving messages or retrieving data left in another lamp (like smartphones are not used only to give phone calls).

I find this is a practical way of both learning vocabulary related with technologies and keeping yourself up to date in this field. In addition, you can listen to it everywhere!

The BBC offers many other podcasts linked with computer science and technologies. This page shows some of them. The podcast Let's Talk About Tech is also interesting even if this is more focused on games and less on the real effects of new technologies.

How about leaving a comment?

Apple marketing techniques

Although I'm not a  fan of Apple, I find their marketing techniques amazing. Either by their posters, their ads or especially by their keynotes and presentations. Their voice tone and their vocabulary used when describing a product,  can be inspiring to many of us, on how can we present our CV, and ourselves in front of an HR in a job interview, or how to present a presentation in front of a group of people.

Here is the Iphone 6 launch (It's not an ad, as i just bashed apple in the previous picture). Notice the simple vocabulary used to seduce the audience. Of course you don't have to watch it all (I stopped at 15 min).

What do you think?  All the best,
Mohamad
